For our #SMHSpotlight feature this month, the limelight is on Waithera Mwangi, one of Scale My Hustle’s esteemed community members.
Waithera joined the Scale Exclusive Circle in March 2020, and she tells us what prompted her to join the community.
“Moe Odele. I was following her on Twitter and I loved everything about her really. Her approach to life, her newsletters, as well as the teachings on various things in her posts. When she mentioned SMH, I was curious, and then took advantage of the offer then that combined membership into SEC + a few very valuable courses she’d prepared.“
Unlike other members of the Scale My Hustle community, Waithera doesn’t have a business. She describes herself as the business. Look at that!
“I am the business. SMH has been super duper valuable. Being a community of very diverse, driven entrepreneurs – SMH is such a gem. My mind was literally opened about the numerous possible opportunities. When I speak anything techy, it’s because SMH made me interested in reading about such things. Also, the beautiful thing is how when one has a question, there’s almost always someone with a quick solution or hack for them or someone who can connect them to someone who can help. Super uber helpful community. Then the Deep Dives. . .wooow!! I think one must experience the Deep Dives in order to understand. Words can’t do justice just how much value those deep dives bring – they literally ‘fix’ you and make you better, more focused and directed. 😂 For me, they’ve been teaching moments that left me in reflection about how I make decisions and what I’m thinking about the future.“
The SMH’S deep-dive sessions, exclusive to the members, are super motivating and readies its members to do it big. Making LinkedIn work for you: Hacks & Tips, building an international career from scratch by Pearle Nwaezeigwe, and of course, perfecting your grad school application with Chinny Ogunro and Rilwan Shittu are Waithera’s favourite Deep Dives.
Recently, Waithera secured a fully-funded scholarship from the Global Development Institue, at the University of Manchester, to pursue an MSc Organisational Change & Development.
That’s a big win! well done Waithera!
Asking her if the community has helped her achieve any personal goal, Waithera has this to say:
“Yes! Thanks to the deep dives I mentioned, I was able to position myself better and craft my scholarship application in a way that the application panel would understand my context and my achievements in that context (and you know, not the famous Africa is poor and full of hardship context). I secured a fully-funded scholarship from the Global Development Institute, Europe’s largest global poverty and inequality institute based at the University of Manchester. I’m pursuing an MSc in Organizational Change & Development, to gain more skill and experience in this field that chose me. “
On any collaboration with any SMH member…
“Not yet,now that you mention it, it’s something I’ll think about. However, I have utilized the services of some of the SMH members – who assisted with reviewing my CV as well as career coaching.“
Congratulations Waithera! We are all rooting for you.
